The cadet will gain direct work experience and training while completing or have newly completed, librarian qualifications, or are undertaking PHD, which can include non-traditional library studies to gain wider experience through project work and working in different teams and areas of the library.
The primary purpose of the Library Cadet program is to contribute to the delivery of a range of professional tasks on a rotational program of on-the-job training and experience across all areas of Library Services including, Experience and Engagement, Outreach and Scholarly Services and Information. This role will the Deakin University community in accordance with university and library strategic and operational plans.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Adopting new ideas and approaches and learn from various points of view and demonstrate understanding
- Seeking to understand the evolving digital landscape and keep abreast of trends and new technologies
- Understanding local processes, contribute to procedures and documentation
- Collecting and analysing information and data from a variety of appropriate sources to solve work problems
- Engaging in process improvement activities and contribute to generate new ideas and changes to work practices
- Role modelling professional and ethical behaviours
- Clarifying expectations and responding promptly to client requests, queries, or complaints to ensure client needs are met to agreed standards and timelines
- Building productive relationships with a diverse range of existing stakeholders and actively seek to maintain positive relationships
- Presenting information in a clear, structured, concise and tailored way by focusing on key messages and check that messages are understood and meet audience needs
To be successful, you’ll have:
- Completion or near completion of a Degree without subsequent relevant work experience; or are PHD candidates
- Demonstrate the ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative, diplomacy, tact and discretion as well as proven experience handling sensitive and personal information in a confidential and appropriate manner
- Ability to works collaboratively with others to prioritise work and critical activities based on changing needs.
- Ability to work as part of a team take instruction and communicate effectively with team members.
- Ability to engage in critical questioning to identify appropriate sources of information to address clients enquiries and to seek help as required
- Demonstrate a high level of learning, energy and commitment and maintain personal integrity and make decisions consistent with University values

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Regular travel will be required particularly between campus libraries
- Infrequent travel may be required interstate and within Victoria
